COLLEGE STATION, Texas — February 27, 2024 — Today, February 27, 2024, one of the Marine One helicopters used by President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush during his presidency arrived at its permanent home in the new Marine One/4141 Locomotive Pavilion at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas.
The historic helicopter’s arrival marks a milestone in advance of the George & Barbara Bush Foundation’s centennial commemoration: 41@100: A Celebration of George H.W. Bush. 41@100 honors the extraordinary life and legacy of President Bush on what would have been his 100th birthday in June 2024. There are a series of public events planned for the occasion at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum that will be announced soon.
“The Marine One/4141 Locomotive Pavilion will offer visitors to the Bush Library & Museum another opportunity to learn about the life and legacy of President George H.W. Bush,” said Secretary Andrew H. Card, CEO of the George & Barbara Bush Foundation. “The Pavilion’s grand opening in June is one of several activities the community is invited to for 41@100: A Celebration of George H.W. Bush, which honors what would have been the president’s 100th birthday.”
The massive 72-foot, 9,300-pound aircraft was transported by a large truck to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum. A crane then lifted the helicopter from the truck and into the 29,000 square foot Marine One/4141 Locomotive Pavilion, which will have a grand opening in June 2024 during the 41@100 celebration.
