BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Next Thursday, June 13, the George and Barbara Bush Foundation and George H.W. Bush Library and Museum will celebrate the 41st president’s 100 birthday.
The George and Barbara Bush Foundation’s Maddie Hillin came on the Three to talk about all of the events.
“The Bush grandchildren will be jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and parachuting in honor of President Bush he had a knack for adventure and loved parachuting especially on his milestone birthdays so this is an incredible opportunity for them to recognize their gampy,” Hillin said.
Throughout the day the presidential library and museum will be open to the public for free and there will be special guests such as Sully the service dog, who was Bush’s service dog in 2018 and Reveille.
“We’ll also have the grand opening of our pavilion which houses the two new artifacts the Marine One helicopter as well as the 4141 locomotive which brought President Bush to his final resting place in College Station,” Hillin said.
So far Hillin said the turnout has been incredible and there are still some events available which can be viewed at 41@100.org.
“One of the biggest events that we have towards the end which is the exclamation point for the celebration itself is the big concert on the ground at the library featuring Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen,” Hillin said.
Hillin said they have been preparing for quite a while and it’s incredible to see the Brazos Valley community show up and show out for President Bush and his legacy.
“He had such a heart for this place and you can really feel the spirit of him being in Aggieland so it just makes the most sense to commemorate his 100th birthday here in the Bryan College Station community,” Hillin said.
